Shirley O’Neal Cohen taught in Johnston County Schools for 37 years. In 2019 she was awarded the Johnston County Public Schools Living Legend Award. She is a charter member of the Johnston County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a lifetime member of the NAACP. She is currently on the Board of Directors of the Johnston County My Kid’s Club in Selma and Smithfield.
Dr. Carolyn G. Ennis served the Johnston County Public Schools for 50 years in various positions. She has been awarded twice the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the state’s highest civilian honor. She was the first African American President of the Democratic Women of Johnston County, and the first to serve two terms as President.
These are among a few of the great accomplishments that these two magnificent women have achieved. We are privileged to have both as guest speakers at our February meeting to honor Black History Month. We are also proud to have as members of the Democratic Women of Johnston County. Please join us for this special event! You will not want to miss their stories and hear about their experiences.
