Moral Monday At NC General Assembly

A diverse coalition of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and those who are politically unaffiliated but believe in democracy, will gather at the North Carolina State Capitol for a Moral Monday to challenge the General Assembly’s efforts to erode the powers of incoming officeholders through Senate Bill 382.

The bill was introduced and rushed through the legislature with barely an hour’s notice and purports to be a disaster relief bill while devoting most of its 131 pages to an autocratic and anti-democratic seizure of power. The bill strips powers from the North Carolina governor, attorney general, and state superintendent–offices recently won by the opposition. This amounts to a coup against the duly elected government.
