DWJC Monthly Meeting: Women's History Month

“Fight for the things that you care about,

but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

- Ruth Bader Ginsburg

During Women's History Month, the Democratic Women Johnston County are standing on the shoulders of all the women who have come before us to fight the good fight for the greater good of all.

You are invited to join us as we have a conversation about
what we envision the future to be after the 2024 election.

  • What do we want for ourselves and our families?

  • What do we want for our communities?

  • What do we want for the state of North Carolina?

  • What do we want for the nation as a whole?

  • What is it we care most about going into the future?

  • How do we have these conversations with others and encourage them to see the value in casting a ballot?

We will take those conversations as the basis to create Vision Boards putting it out into the universe to make it so!

This is a great way to meet others, have a few heartfelt conversations, and  together create a vision for the future.

Bring a friend! All materials will be provided.(If you have a pair of scissors &/or old magazines that you can  bring that would be appreciated -- but if not, we have plenty to share)

We are also collecting individually wrapped feminine hygiene products specifically pantiliners, mini and maxi pads for the WHOA Club.

Thursday March 21st, 6:30pm
1302 W. Market Street, Smithfield

Don't miss it!   We look forward to seeing you!
If you want to come but don't drive at night, please let us know and we will connect you with someone who will be more than happy to bring you!!

Our guest speaker will be Shannon Halbur, Local Group Leader and President of the Johnston County Chapter of
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
Shannon will speak to us about this organization and what they are doing to help end gun violence.

Just this week we hear on the news about four people killed and nine people injured at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky.   It is becoming too common place to hear about school shootings!  It is time that something is done.  How can we help?  What can we do in Johnston County?

DWJC Monthly Meeting - Zoom Meeting

70% of Americans want to uphold our fundamental right for life-saving health care. If this draft decision stands, that right will rely on our elected officials at all levels of government. There is only one way to ensure everyone has the right to make their own health care decisions – elect Democrats.

Our program for this meeting will be guest speaker Lynne Walter, MSW, Advocacy and Organizing Manager for Pro-Choice NC. Lynne will speak on what effect the reversal of Roe V. Wade will have for women and what we can do going forward. She will be available for questions.

We will also have a video presentation from Jillian Riley, MSW, NC Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. She recently spoke at a meeting for our state county chairs. She has kindly agreed for us to share this with you.

We will have this month’s meeting virtually in order to allow as many participants as possible. Please register here for our meeting to hear this most informative presentation! The zoom link will be emailed the day before the meeting.

We will also announce the winner of our Pet Photo Contest. If you have not yet voted, please click on this link and vote for that favorite pet!! First prize is a professional pet photo shoot by our own member, Michelle Strickland.

Please plan to join us!

Look forward to seeing you!

DWJC Monthly Meeting - Virtual

We are thrilled to have Patsy Robertson, DWJC Secretary, host a presentation in recognition of Black History Month!

Celebrating the Beauty, Power, and Resilience of African American Women

The presentation includes introductions to a unique group of women whose contributions have historical value and significant implications for a future we can only imagine. These women dreamed what most of us would consider impossible dreams despite discrimination, adversity, and prejudice. Yet, the presentation demonstrates that regardless of the circumstances, nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself!
